Raccoon City Police Department

It seemed the Sunday evening was going to end uneventfully in the police station, but a journalist for the Daily Raccoon had other plans. Alyssa Ashcroft, 28, had been waiting the entire afternoon for a scheduled appointment with Chief Brian Irons, concerning a string of murders occurring within Raccoon City. Knowing by the end of the evening that the interview would never take place, Alyssa took matters into her own hands and decided to visit Irons without any further authorization.

Enter Albert Wesker, captain of the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team. Having already visited Irons for that evening, he encountered the ambitious journalist on the way out, making it clear to her that office hours had ended and that she was to return the next day, at a more acceptable hour. As Alyssa reluctantly saw herself out of the police department for that night, Wesker received an urgent call from operatives at Umbrella, the corporation under which he was truly employed. The man supposedly behind ten murders in Raccoon City was Dr. Timothy Skern, a scientist under Umbrella that had become a liability to the powerful corporation... just like the ten victims before him.

Dr. Timothy Skern's Apartment Complex/ Uptown Raccoon

At approximately 2:30 in the morning that Sunday (or rather, Monday) night, Timothy Skern, scientist for the Umbrella Corporation was killed in his apartment by a team of special operatives led by Albert Wesker. Early that next morning, one of Skern's elderly neighbors entered the apartment with an extra key to borrow sugar from the man. The old woman found Skern in his bathtub with his wrists slit open. She proceeded to call the police, and thus the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team was sent to investigate.

Captain Wesker, having organized the murder, concluded to his team that Skern's death was the cause of suicide, which no one questioned, due to the astounding amount of evidence found at the crime scene, including a suicide note supposedly written by Skern, as well as photographs of his supposed victims. Alyssa Ashcroft attempted to perform investigations of her own, but was immediately sent away by the operating S.T.A.R.S and their captain.

Raccoon City Police Department/Arklay Forest

Police Chief Brian Irons admitted the ambitious Alyssa Ashcroft into S.T.A.R.S to observe the elite task force for a week so that she could complete an enlightening editorial for the Daily Raccoon newspaper. After participating in a daily target practice session, the journalist was invited to Jack's Bar by the Alpha team after their work for the day was over. Jill Valentine also managed to convince their captain, Albert Wesker, to join them, a feat not so easily accomplished. However, he would not stay long, as a distressing call from his true employer turned his attention away from a relaxed Alpha team and to the Arklay forest instead...

A Hunter, one of the deadly specimens created by the Umbrella Corporation, managed to escape the mansion facility, taking off to stalk prey deep in the woods of the Arklay Mountains. Once Wesker was informed, a team was immediately sent out to take care of the threat and prevent all possible spread of T-virus infection. HUNK, an elite member of the Umbrella Security Service, led the clean up crew that would spend all night giving chase after the B.O.W. After the deaths of two operatives, and losing all trace of the MA-121 at the main interstate that made Raccoon City an easy target for the monster, it was made clear that one Hunter alone was more than a minor threat to Umbrella's prized world of secrecy.

Arklay Forest

The escaped B.O.W proved to be a great danger sooner than expected. That morning it attacked a civilian in the woods, a recreational hunter. His wife, Mrs. Poiler contacted the police soon after her son and dog went missing in pursuit of the creature that killed her husband. Thus, S.T.A.R.S Alpha team was called in to investigate the woods surrounding the area where the Poiler's lived.

Shortly into their investigation, the Hunter appeared, chasing Alyssa Ashcroft into the woods after she had questioned Mrs. Poiler for the newspaper, despite being told by S.T.A.R.S not to do so. The chase caused her to accidentally collide into Captain Wesker, pushing his leg into a bear trap that Mr. Poiler or his son had probably set up to hunt the B.O.W. After taking short refuge in a cabin to tend to Wesker's wound, S.T.A.R.S and the civilian journalist retreated to an abandoned Umbrella facility in their haste to escape the MA-121...

The Umbrella Training Facility

Retreating to the abandoned facility only seemed to further provoke the beginning of what would be Raccoon's worst nightmare. Almost as soon as they arrived, the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team met monstrosities far worse than the Hunter that had pursued them, beginning with what was apparently the undead forms of deceased scientists and security personnel that had come to reestablish functionality to the training facility. It was one of these 'zombies' that caused the first casualty, on Alpha member Joseph Frost, biting him viciously on his neck.

As Joseph slowly succumbed to the transforming effects of the T-Virus, one Dr. William Birkin struggled on his own in another side of the Training Facility. He had been charged with personally reopening the facility, a task he was most reluctant to accomplish given his current major project with his G-Virus creation. Colonel Sergei Vladimir, the Umbrella official who answers only to Ozwell Spencer himself, also informed the doctor of his intention to retrieve the top secret TALOS prototype bioweapon from the Spencer facility during those very same hours. However, when it rains, it pours, and Sergei's unexpected decision was currently the least of his worries, for a nightmare from his past made sure to re-introduce itself, in the form of Dr. James Marcus.

The resurrected co-founder of the Umbrella Corporation revealed to Birkin that he was indeed the cause for the escaped Hunter, as well as the outbreak in the Training Facility, via the infected mutant leeches under his control. Desperate, Birkin sought out Albert Wesker, his long time colleague since their own days of studying in the Training Facility. Wesker and the other S.T.A.R.S had already been rejoined by Bravo team, including Rebecca Chambers and a supposedly escaped military convict, Billy Coen. Bravo team member, Edward Dewey had been lost to the infected dogs, Cerberus, on the way.

Joseph's transformation was inevitable. Any trace of the dedicated S.T.A.R.S officer was gone as he attempted to feed on his own teammates. They had no choice but to neutralize him. The resurrected Marcus then felt that was it was a convenient time to release more horrors from within the depths of the Training Facility to exact vengeance on his former students, Birkin and Wesker. Along with having to contend with Marcus' leech monsters, S.T.A.R.S also faced the fearsome proto-Tyrant, who fatally injured Forest Speyer before finally being brought down by Birkin's B.O.W rounds, shot by marksman Chris Redfield. With Forest bleeding internally, S.T.A.R.S, Coen, Birkin, and the journalist Alyssa Ashcroft all agreed that the Training Facility was no longer safe, and that they had no choice but to find another refuge to call for help from.

Running through the forest a second time was much more difficult - now with a storm to contend with as well as the slowly dying Forest Speyer. The Hunter as well as hungry Cerberus' chased them throughout, and it was perhaps by some miracle that S.T.A.R.S and the other remaining survivors made it to the Spencer Estate...

The Spencer Mansion

With Forest Speyer dead by the time S.T.A.R.S reached the second mansion, there seemed to be no choice for them but to yet again split up to find some means of escape. It was a long and arduous nightmare, filled with more than just the monsters they had already encountered, including death traps built into the house itself by Spencer, from which Jill Valentine had only narrowly escaped with her life.

The mansion claimed the lives of Kenneth J. Sullivan, and Enrico Marini who died in a vain attempt to protect William Birkin from Sergei Vladimir's bodyguard, the Ivan-class Tyrant. With Birkin in his hands, Sergei's intention was to claim a TALOS-project prototype to return to the Umbrella corporation's headquarters, as well as destroy the Arklay Facility and Training Facility as well, by means of the Red Queen supercomputer.

In the labs deep beneath the mansion, the injured Albert Wesker came across one Ada Wong, a spy sent by a rival corporation known only as HCF to gather data on Umbrella's secret bioweapon projects. The two formed a tentative truce meant to benefit one another, as Ada's organization would have valued Wesker's priceless information, and Wesker enthusiastic to abandon the company that brought him up.

In the chaos that ensued once the self-destruct system was activated, a Tyrant woke from hibernation and impaled Wesker through the stomach as he pushed young Rebecca Chambers out of harm's way. The rest of the team made a flight for the emergency helicopter pad, and as they battled the Tyrant and James Marcus, Wesker instructed Ada Wong on his dying breath to inject him with a substance given to him previously by William Birkin. The spy made her escape, unaware that Wesker rose seemingly back from the dead, without the gruesome results of previous zombies.

James Marcus made it a point to ensure the continuation of the queen leech's legacy by attaching her to Sergei Vladimir's helicopter, where it would no doubt eventually fall to safety somewhere close to Raccoon City's limits. Enlightening S.T.A.R.S on the Umbrella Conspiracy was his last act, as he was engulfed by the fires of the explosion while S.T.A.R.S escaped.

Their final conviction was to return to Raccoon with the knowledge of Umbrella's evil, and do everything in their power to bring the corporation to an end, while Ada reunited with a revived Wesker in the Arklay forest.

Raccoon City Police Department/Uptown Raccoon

When the remaining STARS land the chopper safely at the RPD, they are determined to bring the cruel company Umbrella to justice. Their first action is to explain the happenings and the demise of many friends and teammates to the corrupt police chief Brian Irons. What they don’t know is that Irons has been under Umbrella’s payroll for long and denies to believe any of their statements. He claims their accusations towards the pharmaceutical enterprise to be blunt lies. Without reasonable evidence, no investigations are to be made into Umbrella.

STARS defend themselves, but they only manage to provoke the chief enough for him to suspend all of them on the charges of gross misconduct, which has led to half of the team’s deaths. Investigations are to be started against Alyssa Ashcroft for her involvement in the case and the convict Billy Coen is escorted to the Raccoon City prison, despite STARS’ efforts to spare him that fate.

The other survivors split up, returning to their respective homes. Barry goes to his family, Alyssa, determined to publish the horrible crimes has commited, back to work, and Jill agrees to accompany Chris to his home in fear that the monsters have found their way out of their grave in the Arklay Mountains.

When they reach Chris’s apartment, the two are faced with yet another surprised. Claire Redfield, Chris’s sister has decided to pay her brother an unannounced visit and involuntarily finds herself in the middle of the chaos as Chris and Jill retell the events of their latest mission.

Raccoon City Umbrella Subterranean Laboratory/Uptown Raccoon

After their arrival at the Raccoon laboratories, Sergei Vladimir drops off a tired William Birkin, who immediately hurries down toward his lab, the only safe haven at the moment. There he is awaited for by his wife, Annette, who was worried sick by his sudden disappearance and certainly also by the state he is in at the moment.

William informs her about the happenings at both the Training Facility and the Spencer Mansion. Together they realize – even if reluctantly – that Umbrella is a sinking ship they have to leave before it is too late.

On the next morning, however, William changes his mind, not able to abandon his life’s work, not even with the threat of Umbrella’s suspicion looming over his head. The two get into a fight, William retreating into his study where he is soon joined by his daughter, Sherry. He gives her a small, gold pendant that holds more inside than just fatherly love.

Arklay Forest/Uptown Raccoon

Meanwhile Albert Wesker and Ada Wong meet again in the forest that surrounds the Spencer Mansion. A short verbal and physical confrontation later Ada agrees to give the weakened STARS Captain a lift to a motel just outside the city borders. She leaves him there and returns to her own hotel, the Arklay Inn, in order to inform the organization of the newest developments.

Knowing that his state is grave and he won’t be able to treat to his wounds alone, Wesker gathers his last strength and calls the Birkin’s home, the only people he can rely on in such a situation. To his surprise it is William Birkin who answers the call, a friend Wesker had thought lost during the outbreak at the Spencer Mansion. He requests help nonetheless, and soon both William and his wife Annette appear to find an unconcious Wesker in the motel room.

To his horror William Birkin learns that his former colleague is infected by the t-virus, but something about the mutation seems to be strange and he decides not to inform his wife about it and convinces her to take Wesker home, where they can give him better treatment.

With Annette and Wesker safe on the way, William erases all evidence of infection by setting the room on fire before heading back to Raccoon City himself. Back home the Birkins conduct further tests and find out that while their friend is infected with the T-virus, his cells show no signs of degeneration, the virus having formed a kind of symbiosis with the serum Wesker has injected himself with earlier.

And as if things weren’t complicated enough already, Monica Wooden, Dr. Birkin’s assistant in the G-virus project, drops by in the same evening, giving her stressed boss the reports for the days he has been absent during.

When Monica Wooden is gone, the Birkins finally find time for themselves. Once, in a long time, and perhaps for the last time. Because in the few hours of tranquility they are given, many things become clear. They have reached a point in their lives where looking back is an impossible wish, where looking ahead is an unavoidable nightmare. But they know that whatever obstacle fate throws at them, they can take it, together.

Umbrella Subterranean Laboratory

The news of the outbreaks and the destruction of two facilities doesn’t need long to reach the head of Umbrella, Ozwell E. Spencer. Briefed by his loyal subordinate Colonel Vladimir about the involvement of Wesker and his STARS aswell as Birkin, the old man decides to take matters in his own hands and promptly dials the number of the Raccoon Laboratories, intent to learn more of what transpired that fateful night.

However, Dr Birkin is not present at work and the fact alone lets Spencer become more suspicious. He talks instead with Birkin’s personal assistant, Monica Wooden, and doesn’t bother to refrain from slipping some subtle hints about the events to her.

With the talk over and done for Monica ponders her situation and her options. She is an intelligent woman and working for Umbrella has taught her that nothing is impossible. Deciding to research the matter on her own she calls some fellow researchers at the Arklay Facility, slightly unnerved when there is no answer. So instead of waiting and anticipating, she gets into a car and drives there – to have her worst fears affirmed.

Only one option remains then, and that is leaving Umbrella and Raccoon City. But not without the G-virus, of which a small vial can be enough to ensure her safety and well being for the rest of her life. Returning to the laboratory, Monica tries to hack Birkin’s personal computer in order to gain access to reports of the project. She fails, however, not without Umbrella’s security system, the Red Queen noticing. Through her Spencer learns of this attempt too and focuses his attention on Birkin and his research. Because something is amiss, and the future of all Umbrella might depend on it.

Raccoon City Police Department/Uptown Raccoon

While her husband leaves for the labs to research the concotion of Wesker’s blood more closely, Annette takes off to the RPD, seeking the help of Brian Irons. He is a man who works for the highest bidder, and currently there is no price Annette Birkin isn’t willing to pay to assure the safety of her family. She instructs Irons to keep an eye out for possible dangers, before heading home again.

Checking on a still sleeping Wesker in the basement, she goes up again – only to stumble into a stranger in her kitchen. The intruder introduces herself as Ada Wong and somehow the secret of Wesker’s survival must have leaked, because the woman demands to see him. A fight ensues and it soon turns grave as guns come into play.

However, everything stops abruptly as a shot is fired and it belongs to neither of the women. They look up to find a dazed, but very much alive Wesker standing in the doorway. Once the situation relaxes a bit, Ada states her business. Wesker offered to work for her organization and her employers show interest in him. She’s here to negotiate and won’t leave before she has what she wants. In the end though, Wesker puts his will through and tells her that he will contact her as soon as he is able to and has recovered at least basically. Reluctantly the agent agrees and leaves the Birkin household, leaving it to Annette to bring him the bad news, that might change everything.

She tells him, in the best way one can pass on such an information, that through the Tyrant's attack his blood has been infected with the T-virus. Quickly she explains William's assumption, that while he is a carrier, he won't turn due to the serum's involvement.

Wesker requests to be alone after that, needing time to think and when Annette checks on him later, he has made a decision, the only one that is in favor for them all. He needs to leave, both for the Birkins's sake as well as for his own. Reluctantly, but understanding Annette lets him go. It is the best for them all.

Uptown Raccoon[/b]

The rising chaos does not go unnoticed by the remaining survivors of the Mansion Incident. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Rebecca Chambers have called in an emergency meeting. What can they do against such an overpowering outbreak? Half of a specially trained team left their lives in two Umbrella facilities. How many lives will an entire town of ghouls demand?

Chris and Jill decide to go back for Claire, who has stayed behind in Chris’ apartment. Barry wants to bring his family out of town as long as that possibility is still an option, and the young Rebecca Chambers decides to save the life of an old friend and makes way for Raccoon’s Police Department to free one innocent prisoner.

Reaching the RPD and avoiding most of the chaos that is going on there, Rebecca quickly descends to the prison cells and briefs Billy about what is going on – and about their plan to escape. Naturally, there can be no other reaction to the suggestion than agreement, and the two fight their way out onto the streets. Which, unsurprisingly, offer no more security than the buildings. Before they manage to reach the city limits Billy gets injured though, and willingly or unwillingly the two are forced to take a detour to Raccoon’s hospital. But is the place where sick people go to get helped the right location to seek out in this situation?

Uptown Raccoon/Raccoon Police Department

In the press room of Raccoon Daily chaos surpasses all. Some are leaving, some are staying and Alyssa Ashcroft is in the middle of it all. As if through a twist of fate she manages to team up with Barry Burton. Together they fight their way through the masses of undead, hoping to reach the end of this apocalypse and survive it alive.

Once they reach Grill 13, they meet up with Richard Aiken from Bravo Team, and after sending out distress calls to anyone who might hear them and want to join them, the three of them continue their journey.

The RPD seems to be the center of attention, a place of false hope for those who are still alive. Kevin Dooley and Leon Kennedy try to make the best out of the situation and evacuate as many people as possible, while the agent Ada Wong finds herself in the police department on her own business. She doesn't stay unnoticed for long though, as a Licker blocks her way. After disposing of it, she runs into Dooley, Kennedy and the newly arrived Chris and Jill, having to come up with a cover story for her presence. She is here in search of her boyfriend, John.

In the garage of the RPD the little group meet up with yet another survivor, Ben Bertolucci. After more encounters with infected creatures, they decide that the best thing to do is split up. Dooley will evacuate the remaining civilians, Chris and Jill continue their pursuit after his sister Claire and Ada, in company of the rookie cop Leon stay in the building in hope of finding John.

Arklay Forest/Uptown Raccoon

Deciding to rest in an old cabin for the night, Albert Wesker tries not to think of his fate and future. And as must as he concentrates to block those thoughts out, as harshly do they return in his dreams. Soaked in sweat and with a pounding heart in his chest he wakes up the following morning, immediately performing one of the quick tests given to him by Annette. The infection is steady, not falling nor rising, but Wesker realizes smells he has never smelt before, sounds he has never paid attention to. His mind is foggy and he suddenly finds himself in the middle of the forest, with nothing but the knife in hand he has used to take a blood sample.

But then, as the tantalizing scent hits him, he knows why he is there and he knows exactly what it means as one deyaing Cerberus shows itself, bone protruding, rotting muscles tensing. Minutes later the hound is sprawled on the ground lifelessly and Wesker is towering above it, silently wondering why the warm feeling of blood on his hands is so good.

He finds himself returning, not to the cabin, but to Raccoon City. The reason is unexplainable. It’s more of a gut feeling. A virus-induced urge, that leaves no space for arguments, or choice, or free will.

Raccoon City Subterraenan Laboratory / Uptown Raccoon

After stabilizing his friend’s grave injuries William Birkin returns to the Underground Labs. To keep up the impression that nothing is wrong and find out more about the mysterious concotion that is running through Wesker’s veins. It’s two days straight of work now and even the most dedicated scientist must submit to his body’s needs of rest. Reluctantly he steps into his car and starts the way home, however in the middle of the way he remembers a thing worth returning for.

Be it chance or fate, upon his arrival in his personal lab he catches Monica Wooden as she tries to steal a sample of his G-virus. A desperate fight ensues, bullets are shot and before any of the two can claim victory, Umbrella’s special forces arrive on the scene.

While they follow a wounded Monica, who sees her own chance of survival in administrating the virus to herself, Birkin has time to run, and run he does. Because if it hasn’t been apparent yet, it is now. Raccoon City is lost territory. It has just turned into a huge grave and the doctor is determined to get his family out as soon as possible.

However, a rampant G-mutant is not Raccoon’s only concern. Simultaneously to the USF departure, Ozwell E. Spencer is presented with one difficult matter. The town that he has used as decoy for Umbrella’s secret experiments is falling apart, quickly. Surviving carriers of the Mansion incident nights before have survived – and reached the city limits. Hostile contact with citizens, media flashes of strangely behaving people, incidents of cannibalism. While the company has dealt with low scale outbreaks before, this is too much to comprehend even for Spencer. Is an incident of such magnitude controllable?

In another part of the city, William Birkin has just reached home. He is greeted by a frightened Annette. The news of Raccoon’s progressing demise is all over the news. It doesn’t need long to decide what to do: they must flee, and that quickly. Grabbing the most necessary things the Birkin family gets into the car and prepares for a long journey and hard times.

The journey, however, turns out to be of very short duration, as the Birkins make their first contact with the beings that have overtaken Raccoon City. A lone carrier in the middle of the road. Their car swerves, jumps, topples over. The world grows black for the Birkins. Undisturbed, the carrier stands in the middle of the road.

Downtown Raccoon

The first to wake from the horrible accident is little Sherry Birkin and she wakes up to a world of fright and terror. At least a dozen undead surround the flipped over car, some breaking through the windows, trying to pull the girl away from her unmoving parents. Sherry manages to climb out of the car and by luck evade the carriers with the help of a sacrificing policeman, left with no other choice but to flee deeper into the burning city.

Meanwhile her parents experience a similar fit of luck as their car is found by no other than Albert Wesker, who disposes of the carriers and frees his colleagues from the wreck. Not knowing the whereabouts of their daughter, the Birkins and Wesker set out to search her and a way out of the city. Neither of their attempts turns out to be successful and as William is assaulted by a leech construct, the trio is forced to venture into the facility beneath Raccoon, where they meet one Dr Frederic Downing.
